'MEDUSSA SPEWMANTI'
(the Giant
Animatronic Goddess)
WITH THE MECHANICAL
UPHEAVAL OF SOCIETYS DOGMA !!!
"MEDUSSA SPEWMANTI"
The Animatronic Vomiting Goddess in Techno Hell,.by Lisa Brandt..
Futurelic (Lixa solo this time) travelled eastern/central Europe
where the Medussa Spewmanti was commissioned and created in Austria/Linz
for the Net Life exhibition in 1999, at the O. K. Centre for Contemporary
Art. Futurelic creates interactive/animatronic performance installations,
the audience participates with interface in real time rather than
the audience as viewer, the priority is that the audience is active
as much as the installation so the experience is happening real
life, and is unique. This type of interactive style is complex and
not easy to classify as other traditional artforms, this crosses
ideas of ritual , virtual animated games, process performance, and
chaos(ha ha) and has been described as 'hyper real electrified mythology',
'communicatable symbiotic body extensions', 'animatronic interfaces
for technomyths'. MEDUSSA'S PROGRAM}}} The "MEDUSSA SPEWMANTI" is
a animatronic Futurelic creation, she is the representation of the
human organism, a three dimensional goddess head 1.5mtrs high submerged
inside a water tank. Medussa sensors visitors and over four minutes
animates to smile via one ton of water with programmed water pump
and float mechanical system, medussa fills with water slowly animating
to a full smile looking at her visitor representing spiritual contact.
Alternatively when loud disturbance/noise happens, ie /chainsaw
action/ranting/shooting, Medussa's external amplified ear signals
another program and she vomits simular to gargoil until empty, left
in an empty position with jaw hanging and eyes closed (asleep) this
program representing the upheaval of society's dogma. These programs
repeat themselves depending on interaction- a visit can over-ride
spewing and while no-one in installation medussa sleeps. The photos
do not describe the animation as video or live is best, VHS raw
footage available from Lixa if required. These are photos from gallery
in Linz exhibition, the Medussa installation has many different
formats depending on site and event, more industrial [gothic/metal]
to [botanic/biomechanical/ spiritual].
